You’ve undoubtedly heard that “cleanliness is next to Godliness”. But, where did that saying come from? Did your mom ever tell you that it had to do with the mess you left in the kitchen or your bedroom? In all seriousness, have you ever considered that it might just be related to the state of your internal body?

You might have heard that fasting is a way to deeply cleanse the body. I’m sure you’ve also heard that Jesus, Buddha, and many other spiritual greats did prolonged fasts before they began sharing their teachings.

But have you ever connect these two things? Did you ever think that these highly spiritual men were perhaps cleansing their bodies purposefully in order to obtain or enhance their spiritual connection? And if that’s the case, does it mean that accumulated toxicity in the body in some way hinders our spiritual connection? Actually, I believe it does.

Have you recognized that in the Bible’s story of Adam and Eve, their downfall from grace was related to eating food that they weren’t supposed to be eating? They were clearly told not to eat that apple. And yet, they ate it anyway. So, according to this story, putting the wrong foods in their bodies was the literal cause of their fall from grace. If there is truth in this story, what do you think the consequences are of regularly putting pesticides, food colorings, preservatives, genetically modified foods, and anti-freeze in our bodies? Did you know that the main ingredient in anti-freeze is common in personal care products and in many “snack” foods?

If two thousand years ago, Jesus felt the need to deeply cleanse his body by doing a documented forty day fast, what does that say about the average person’s toxicity level today? Two thousand years ago, pesticides and herbicides weren’t in our soil, foods, or water. Two thousand years ago, genetically modified ingredients weren’t in most of the processed foods available. Come to think of it, two thousand years ago, there were likely very few processed foods around and definitely nothing like the chemical concoctions that sit on the shelves today. And, even in far less toxic times, Jesus felt the need to do a deep, prolonged cleanse.

Cleansing is just a way to eliminate all of that toxicity from our bodies.  Fasting is one way to do it. A cleanse diet, if you’re not up for fasting, can also help a great deal. Colon cleansing and liver cleansing are powerful ways to physically remove a great deal of waste from our bodies. When you see how much stored waste comes out of you, you might be surprised. Actually, cleansing might be one of those things that you have to do for yourself to really understand how much toxicity the average person carries these days. But when you see it, it becomes difficult to deny.
